off to the beach
Just got home from the Police concert. Brother #2 scored free tickets and then couldn’t go. Yea me! The Police totally rocked!
See you at the end of the week.

Houses are dropping like flies
When we got home on Friday, we noticed an amazing sight. A house around the corner fell down. Crazy.

Do I hear the world’s smallest violin?
I am so sleepy. LEM offered to house a couple of random people last night. (They are random to me; he actually knows one of them through churchy-stuff, I think.) They flew in/out of the NOLA airport because it was cheaper, but knew that they would not be up to driving back to ‘bama after arriving late yesterday evening. OK, so far.
We had really bad weather last night; their flight was delayed. They arrived at around 12:30 or 1. LEM waited up for them, but I was rude and went to bed. The guy who slept in the backroom wandered through our bedroom at least 4 times between arrival and my leaving at 7:45 this morning.
The joys of shotgun living.
I don’t know how I’m going to make it through meetings today.
out of the loop
Just to let you know the girl at the movie theater thinks you’re stupid if you didn’t know Harry Potter opened last night at midnight.

What a way to start the day
I woke up with George Michael’s “I want your sex” stuck in my head. I have no idea why, but I blame ordinarywhirled and her GM/WHAM! obsession.

hallucinations about pastry
I keep mis-reading the word cake in everything this morning. And I’m not even hungry. Weird.
At the risk of repeating myself
Who wouldn’t want to see a movie that blows up a helicopter with a car? Die Hardest (or whatever) was great. Even when you see the stunts coming, they still pay off.
And this makes the 3rd movie we’ve seen this month. Crazy.
The other two were License to Wed (ehh) and Ocean’s 13 (fun, but we mainly went to see a friend’s name in the credits).

One more thing about Die Hardest and then I’ll stop, really.
There’s a line about not relying on the government and computer nerd boy (Justin Long) says “It took FEMA 5 days to get water to the superdome.” Everyone in the theater burst out laughing. Aah, cynical New Orleans, I love you.
I just realized that I never posted my June reads:
Path of Blood by Dianna Pharoah Francis – a decent conclusion to a fantasy trilogy
The Orphan’s Tales v.1: In the Night Garden by Catherynne Valente – a beautiful, captivating book that reminded me of the Arabian Nights. I can’t wait for vol.2 (being published in October).
Danse Macabre by Laurel K. Hamilton – really I need to give up on these. We’re on what book #14? Jeez. I still like the characters and the constant sex scenes were a little more integrated into the plot than in previous entries. But the main plot? Disgarded and wrapped up ludicrously at the end.
Speaking of LKH, I read on a library blog somewhere about a woman going to public library and asking for her books like she was ordering kiddie porn.
But really only 3 books? And on my vacation, I read tons of magazines but only 1 book. I really need to step up. Especially since the 1st part of my new Amazon shipment arrived today.

I went to an RC church yesterday and it was actually one that I’ve never attended before. The occasion was the baptism of the Ocho who is now just over 5 weeks old. She’s the first infant to wear the newly conserved christening gown which is almost 100 years old, give or take 6 months.
The little flower (which may have to become her permanent referral name) is the 22nd child to wear the dress in the last 100 years. There were 2 children in the 1st generation, 3 in the second, 10 in the 3rd, and now 7 in the 4th.
I know my grandmother was sorry to have missed the party, especially the shrimp remoulade. But I know she was smiling down on all of us.

just when you’re riding high, you’re brought low
I finally conquered the Palm issues that I’ve been having for a week. It turns out my outlook calendar wasn’t working because of a double whammy. It only took 3 or 4 days to figure it out.
Then when I’m feeling all “we are the champions,” I accidentally delete a bunch of html files off of the production server and, of course, the same files on the development server are corrupted. Yea me!
Luckily, I found backs ups on our development from 2 years ago. And I used the WayBack Machine to get some others from last summer. Thank goodness, these are not crucial sections of our webpage.

Today’s word is pelf. It means “wealth or riches, especially when dishonestly acquired.” But is still sounds dirty to me

Styx and beer
So LEM, Quintulus and I went to the free Styx concert on Saturday night. I must say they sounded really good and the rotating chromed out keyboard was just good rock-n-roll fun. Astonishing how many songs that I still knew the words to.
LEM ran into a bunch of folks he knew. Including a rough looking guy who evidentally spilled some of his beer as he pushed through the crowd. This girl starts screaming at him from 10 feet away talking about how he poured beer in her hair. He walked back and apologized and said the crowd was jostling him. Her response was to curse him out and start screaming. At which point the only girl in his group, pulls him away. He starts cursing back and then the girl throws her beer on him and about 10 other people, including me. As you can imagine, it only got uglier.
Another girl from the girls group pushes forward and starts threatening to fight…I’m not sure with whom. It was bizarre. One of the guys in the girl’s group, started trying to get the girls to calm down. But they were insistent on picking a fight.
So the girl in the guy’s group (and her husband) convinced them to just walk away. LEM said this was all typical behavior that he saw all the time while working. Quintulus decided (after eavesdropping) that the girl’s group was all from St. Bern*rd.

Who am I a friend of?
Are there self help groups for compulsive shoe shoppers? Because I have to stop buying shoes. I am able to control myself with all other purchases, so it’s pretty specific. On the other hand, the pair delivered last night are so cute!
