Arty Tuesday: Mountains…Gaugin

For August I thought some mountain views might have us all wishing for a vacation…

Mountain Landscape by Paul Gaugin (1882)

This is really different from what we typically think as Gaugin. I think early works are so interesting since we see where an artist began.

For about a decade I would spend a week in the Catskill Mountains in August. It was great to get away from the New Orleans heat. I always thought it was funny when the folks up there would be complaining how hot it was and I would be wearing a sweater. The 70s feel cool when you’ve been up around 100 for a couple of months. In honor of those escapes, August’s theme will be mountains…not many of them in Louisiana.
